Understanding Yeasts and Bacteria in the Gut

Yeasts cohabitate in a symbiotic relationship with more than 400 healthy intestinal bacteria. This bacteria/yeast flora helps produce short-chain fatty acids, vitamin K, biotin, vitamin B12, thiamin, and riboflavin. These bacteria also keep the yeast that inhabits our intestinal tract in check.

Candida albicans is a particular form of yeast found living in the intestinal tracts of most individuals. A minute amount of Candida present in the body is actually beneficial; it acts as a natural antibiotic and helps to limit the amount of harmful bacteria1.

Yeast Overgrowth
